Pragmatic Pareidolia

Nowadays, software can find faces in satellite imagery and clouds. Those faces aren’t there, of course. The algorithms recognize something where there isn’t anything.

For decades, people have been asking, “how long until software can truly understand a text?” and the field is still far away from a solution.

But seen from a different perspective, maybe software can find a meaning; just not the meaning we’re looking for. Cf. Exhibit A.

Just a thought.
