Michael Leddy, translating an inscription found on a 19th century building:

One contemplates it
Another laughs at it
The third despises it
Who cares

It, in this case, is the house on which the text¹ is written. More research by Leddy turns up other sources, the earliest from 1330, and all basically state the same: “This is my work, and I don’t care what you think of it.” — Ages-old wisdom, still relevant for today’s creatives.
